High-Protein Recipes: How to Filter by Protein in NoshUp
Last updated
Looking for high-protein recipes that fit a real weeknight, a real family, and a real grocery budget? NoshUp lets you filter more than 1,200 recipes by protein per serving, so you only see meals that hit your target. When you add those meals to your grocery list, NoshUp flags the ingredients that are on sale in this week's grocery flyers, so eating more protein does not have to mean spending more.
This guide shows you exactly how to find protein-rich recipes in NoshUp, step by step, and how to turn them into a weekly plan and a grocery list that saves you money.
Why choose high-protein recipes?
Protein keeps you full for longer, supports muscle repair after exercise, and helps steady your energy through the day. Many people aim for 20 to 30 grams of protein per meal, and a high-protein dinner makes a daily goal much easier to reach.
The hard part is not knowing that protein matters. It is finding healthy recipes with enough protein, night after night, without reading every nutrition label. That is what the NoshUp protein filter is for.
How to filter high-protein recipes in NoshUp
The protein filter lives in the recipe library and is available on the free plan. Every recipe card shows estimated protein, carbs, fat, and fibre per serving, so you can compare meals at a glance.
- Sign in to NoshUp. Open the app on your phone or computer and sign in. New here? Creating an account is free.
- Open the recipe library. Go to Recipes. You will see the full library with a live count, for example "1,200 recipes".
- Pick a protein target. Next to the Protein label, tap 15 g+, 20 g+, or 25 g+. The list updates instantly to show only recipes with at least that much protein per serving. Tap the same chip again to turn it off.
- Narrow by meal type. Choose Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Snack to find high-protein breakfasts, lunches, or dinners specifically.
- Refine by cuisine or keyword. Use the cuisine menu (it starts at "All cuisines") or type in the Search recipes... box, for example "chicken", "tofu", or "lentil".
- Respect your diet and allergies. Tap Diet & Allergies to set Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free, or Nut allergy. Your preferences apply across the app.
- Check the numbers on each card. Each recipe card shows protein in grams per serving, along with carbs, fat, and fibre. Open a recipe to see the ingredients and steps.
- Add your favourites to the week. Add a recipe straight to your meal plan for the day you want to cook it.
- Reset when you are done. Tap Clear filters to go back to the full library.
Tip: recipes without a protein estimate are hidden while a protein filter is on, so every result you see has a number you can trust.
Set a protein goal for your whole week
Filtering the library is great for browsing. If you want every planned meal to meet a protein goal, set it once for the week:
- Open your meal plan.
- Tap Filters & Tools, then Constraints.
- Under Protein per serving, choose 20, 25, or 30 grams.
- Tap Done (or Review conflicts if NoshUp flags a conflict with your other settings). NoshUp plans your week with meals that meet at least that much protein per serving.
You will see a badge such as "At least 25 g protein/serving" so you always know the rule is on. You can pair it with a calorie limit per serving (500, 600, or 700) if you want lean, high-protein meals. These rules apply only to that week, so you can change them any time.

Find healthy recipes that save you money
High-protein food has a reputation for being expensive. Chicken, beef, fish, and Greek yogurt add up fast. NoshUp helps in two ways.
Grocery flyer deals, matched to your recipes
NoshUp reads weekly grocery flyers from stores like FreshCo, Costco, Walmart, and more, then matches those deals to the ingredients in your planned meals. Add your high-protein recipes to the plan, open Groceries, and tap Add meals: items like chicken thighs or lean ground beef get a sale tag when they are on the flyer, along with your estimated savings. Flyer deal matching is included on the free plan.

A grocery list that builds itself
Once your high-protein meals are in your plan, open Groceries and tap Add meals. NoshUp combines the ingredients from every recipe into one list, merges duplicates, and marks the items that are on sale this week. No double-buying, no forgotten eggs.

Budget-friendly protein swaps
- Eggs and egg whites for quick breakfasts.
- Canned beans, lentils, and chickpeas for cheap plant protein.
- Tofu and tempeh, often on sale and very versatile.
- Chicken thighs instead of breasts when thighs are on the flyer.
- Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt in larger tubs.
High-protein recipe ideas from NoshUp

| Buffalo chicken tostadas | 65 g |
| Cordon bleu | 65 g |
| Black pepper flank steak salad | 60 g |

Frequently asked questions
Is the protein filter free?
Yes. The protein filter in the recipe library and flyer deal matching are both part of the free plan.
How is protein per serving calculated?
NoshUp estimates nutrition from each recipe's ingredients and portions. Values are estimates, not medical advice. Read How NoshUp calculates recipe calories for details.
Can I find high-protein vegetarian recipes?
Yes. Choose Vegetarian in Diet & Allergies, then pick a protein chip. You will see vegetarian recipes, which may include eggs and dairy, that meet your protein target. For fully plant-based results, choose Vegan.
Can I filter for high-protein breakfast recipes?
Yes. Choose Breakfast as the meal type, then pick 15 g+, 20 g+, or 25 g+.
What is the difference between the recipe filter and the weekly protein goal?
The recipe filter helps you browse. The weekly goal in Constraints tells NoshUp to plan every meal in that week with at least your chosen grams of protein per serving.
