Scan a receipt, skip the manual entry

The groceries are unpacked, someone needs a snack, and the receipt is already disappearing into a coat pocket. Keeping track of what your family spent shouldn't mean another chore.

Take a photo of your grocery receipt and NoshUp reads the items and prices for you. You get a record of your shopping trip, and your spending appears in Budget without entering every purchase by hand.

Take photo / pick file

1. Open Receipts in NoshUp.
2. Choose Take photo / pick file. Depending on your device, you can take a photo or choose a receipt image you already have.
3. Use a clear, well-lit photo with the whole receipt visible. Supported image formats are JPEG, PNG and WebP.
4. Wait while NoshUp reads the receipt. It usually takes a few seconds.

NoshUp reads the store, purchase date, receipt total, and the names, quantities and prices of the items you bought. A faded line or blurry photo can mean something is missed, so a quick check is worth it.

If NoshUp says it couldn't read the receipt, choose Dismiss to close that attempt. Then choose Take photo / pick file to try a clearer photo, with the receipt laid flat and no shadows covering the text.

Enter manually

If a photo isn't practical, choose Enter manually to type in the receipt instead. This is useful for an emailed receipt or one that's too faded to photograph.

If a scan has failed, choose Dismiss to close that attempt before choosing Enter manually.

Review items

1. Check the item names, quantities and unit prices against your receipt. Give any item marked Check a second look: NoshUp wasn't sure it read that part correctly.
2. Correct any mistakes in those details, then choose Save beside each item you change.
3. Choose Done reviewing when you're finished. You can then add your next receipt.

Unit price means the price of one item. If you bought two cartons of milk at $5 each, the quantity is 2 and the unit price is $5, not $10.

During review, View on receipt lets you compare an item with the photo.

Track your spending

As soon as NoshUp has read the receipt successfully, the purchase appears in Budget, even before you finish reviewing. Done reviewing closes the review; it doesn't add the purchase a second time.

If you correct an item's quantity or unit price and choose Save, Budget reflects the correction too. That means a misread price doesn't have to throw off your family's spending picture.

When NoshUp records savings linked to flyer deals on your grocery list, you'll see those savings with the receipt. Not every receipt will have recorded savings, but it can still help you track what you spent.

Past receipts

Your receipt appears under Past receipts, along with its store, date, total and whether NoshUp has finished reading it. On Pro, View original opens the receipt photo while it is still available.

Free plan limit

The free plan includes five receipts a month. The counter on the Receipts page shows how many you have left and when it resets. Pro includes unlimited receipt scanning.
